About the TOPJ Exam
What is TOPJ (TOPJ実用日本語能力テスト)?
The TOPJ Practical Japanese Proficiency Test was developed by experts and professors active in the field of Japanese language education in Japan and overseas. For learners of Japanese as a foreign language, this test not only assesses basic vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure, but also aims to evaluate students' understanding of Japanese society and the customs and culture of Japanese companies through questions they may encounter in the daily and professional lives of foreigners residing in Japan. Therefore, learners will not only gain a grasp of the basics of the language but also become more accustomed to Japanese society as a whole.
The TOPJ Practical Japanese Proficiency Test is divided into beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Like the JLPT, scores on this test serve as proof of language proficiency when applying to study in Japan.
For example, achieving a beginner's A level indicates sufficient proficiency to study at a Japanese language institution in Japan, while attaining an advanced A level suggests a certain level of adaptability to Japanese society and Japanese companies, allowing them to work as an interpreter for such companies.
